I had also planned at least one trip outside Palermo. Trapani on the western tip of Sicily looked interesting, but public transport connections are weak and apparently you need your own transport to see the sights which are spread out. So I gave up on that and settled for Cefalù, to the east. It's only an hour by train.
The most prominent feature that you will notice on arrival is the headland. The village is small but attracts millions of local and foreign tourists per year.
This is the start of the main street of Cefalù.
Overlooked by the headland.
Cute flowerpots to attract tourist pictures.
The Piazza del Duomo and the Duomo behind it.
A bit further on and we reach the sea.
A portal opens up to the sea.
There's a small sandy beach here.
And a jetty one can walk to the end of.
A series of panoramas of the area.
Taken from the jetty.
As usual, forgive the curved panoramas.
To the west of the jetty is a longer beach.
And a promenade to accompany.
Back in town there are colourful houses.
And some narrow lanes where restaurants might be found.
Looking for a light lunch, I settled on this arancini shop. The people standing around are waiting for their turn to be called to collect, like me.
And some gelato to finish off.
That was my small outing to Cefalù. It's possible to walk up the headland for better views but I was still a bit fatigued from jet lag.
