Montreale cathedral

Seeing as it was Sunday, I thought it might be a good day to visit Montreale Cathedral, from the Norman era, on the outskirts of Palermo. There is a city bus service that goes there but I had to take a connecting bus first. Fortunately it's all on the same ticket

It's on a hilltop and it turned out the town was holding a sports event for young people that Sunday. It didn't interfere with the stream of tourists entering though.

There was a small souvenir market outside the church.

And some classic cars parked there.

Ok I confess, I didn't enter the cathedral. It's supposed to be quite ornate. But I really don't have much interest in religious buildings. It's not my heritage or history. I'd rather spend the money eating a local meal which is also local heritage. For the interiors you will find heaps of photos on the Internet, far better taken than any I could take.

I walked around to the back of the cathedral and admired the view of the city of Palermo.

The towers are quite attractive I have to say.

Looking towards the town from the cathedral.

A panoramic view of the hills backing Palermo.

Back in the city I came across the Parco d'Orleans and spent some pleasant moments strolling through it.

For lunch I picked a well-recommended restaurant in the Ballarò Market where I had been the day before. It was well-packed with lunchers both locals and visitors.

I had the spaghetti with sardines which is a typical dish there. It was quite delicious.

I was still tired from jet lag so I didn't do any more sightseeing in the afternoon.
